Site Engineer

Site Engineer


The main aim of a site engineer for Thompsons Engineering Ltd is to build, install, and service the various drying and handling schemes we design and create for a variety of customers and industries. Our clients are a mix of agricultural and light industrial sites including some mills, so experience in either or both is desirable but not essential.

We are looking for an engineer who would hold the following attributes:

•Experience in the use of hand tools, power tools and welding machines (Arc, MIG).

•Experience of working within a team to a fixed deadline and can demonstrate examples of when you have achieved this.

•Good communication skills. Our teams are often on site working remotely and communication is key for a successful project.

•Someone who can demonstrate the ability to work within a good health and safety framework and who is ideally used to working with Risk Assessments and Method Statements or has an understanding of how these from part of the working day.

•A positive ‘can do’ attitude, and a sense of pride in one’s own work, we believe the difference between us and the competition is the final 5%.

•Height work is a key part of what we do, and manual handling is required in some circumstances so an understanding of this prior to applying for the role is important.

•Able to work at a fast pace, with a lot of variety and a good sense of initiative.

All applicants MUST hold a valid driving license due to the rural location of the workshop and various sites.

The following qualifications are desirable but not necessarily required, as all necessary training will be given to the successful applicant:

•Fork lift licence

•Manual handling training

•Working at heights qualification

•Cherry picker

•Telehandler 360 slew training

•Health and safety training

•Abrasive Wheels

Shortlisted applicants will be expected to undertake a 2-part interview process. The first will be a meeting with the Managing Director to discuss your skill set, goals and experience, and more about the role itself, and the second part will be a practical skill assessment-based interview.

You will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with a reasonable amount of overtime. During busier periods (particularly May – October) you will be required to work some weekend days also, but this will be agreed upon in advance with your manager.
